In honor of what would have been the 2020 MET Gala yesterday, here is a look back at Zendaya's second MET Gala appearance. Due to the current Global Health Crisis, the event has now officially been postponed until October as confirmed by VOGUE Magazine. For the 2016 MET Gala, the theme Exhibition was titled "Manus X Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology" which explored how Fashion utilizes modern-day technology in the construction of Haute Couture and how technology has influenced fashion. For the event, Zendaya wore American Designer Michael Kors.
The pairing of Zendaya and Michael Kors made perfect sense considering that Zendaya would eventually star alongside Victoria's Secret model Martha Hunt in the ad campaign for Michael Kor's Smartwatch which launched around September of 2016. Michael Kors is also one Designer that Zendaya and her Image Architect LAW Roach has consistently worked with throughout their careers.
Sticking to the MET Gala theme of technology, the inspiration behind the look was an android. Zendaya wore a custom gown by Michael Kors, the design was a sleek one sleeve halterneck gown with a sleek train. Very little details are known about this gown except that the embroidery on the gown which consisted beaded sequins took over one month to complete according to Michael Kors.
There was so much simplicity in this look that it didn't require much jewelry, but that didn't mean that the look didn't come with any jewels, the look was accessorized with custom Citrine rings by jewelry designer Jorge Adeler.
My favorite part of the look was the hair and the makeup because it really transformed Zendaya into a different person. This is what the true essence of the MET Gala is all about, stepping outside of the box, getting out of your comfort zone, and having fun with your look, although Zendaya pretty much already does this for every red carpet she steps on.
The makeup by Sheika Daley is my all-time favorite makeup look on Zendaya, from the smokey eye to the metallic hints, to even the glossy metallic lip. The story behind the hair was very interesting because it led to the formation of Zendaya's current glam squad. Her hair was styled in a 60's style bob wig, similar to Sonny Bono's. According to Ursula Stephen, the look came together after an emergency phone call from LAW Roach the day of when she dropped everything last minute to work on the wig after the original wig didn't turn out as planned, this led Ursula working with Zendaya full time.
