While waiting for a restaurant that was still going to open for dinner service at 5:00 p.m., we decided to check out a neighboring establishment for some appetizers.
Taco Vengo! is located at 16 United Street in Kapitolyo, Pasig.
There's a small alley that leads to Taco Vengo! and other quaint, hole-in-the-wall types of establishments. In other words, places that want to be called "hip".
The bohemian enclave brought to mind the defunct Esquinita in Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, The Collective in Malugay Street and the funky eateries at Maginhawa Street. What sets this pathway apart is its tininess which can be suffocating during peak times. But then, for some people, the fun is in the jostling and squeezing in crowds.
Taco Vengo! is housed in a former container van. The spartan feel of the interiors is appealing.
I like the whiteness of the place and the cool air conditioning.
There's an alfresco area for smokers.
I have a feeling this section where one can have drinks while standing is a hit at night.
Joining me to try out some dishes was my friend David from Madrid.
Since we were still going to another place for dinner proper, we decided to try only two menu items.
Pork Taco - " cheek confit ".
Cheek confit is merely sisig. I like the piece of pork crackling proudly placed in the middle.
The sisig was moist and tasty. This was a good choice.
Steak Burrito - " orange chipotle ".
The burrito was hefty and definitely shareable.
This was also quite delicious. The meat was succulent and seasoned nicely. My only qualm was that the ratio between rice and meat was uneven. It was mostly rice that I tasted. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant pre-dinner meal and with less than an hour to kill, we decided to merely walk around the area and see what other developments were brewing.
Cost of Meal : P 375.00
